Rathbones' response to COVID-19

During the COVID-19 outbreak, Rathbones is continuing to deliver its full range of services, remaining focused on serving our clients and partners.

We are fully available to discuss the management of new or existing client portfolios, or any other matters, over the telephone or by email.

We have established a successful “remote working” model and the majority of Rathbones employees are now working from outside the office. Your investment manager or other usual Rathbones contact is available to you on their usual landline or mobile telephone number or email address, so please do feel free to get in touch.

As the UK starts to take some careful steps to ease lockdown, we have reviewed our current working arrangements and have decided that we will continue to ask most of our staff to work from home. We are confident that we can maintain the high levels of service that our clients expect from us and do our part to help protect each other by keeping our offices closed for now. We are considering what a limited return to work may look like in the future and how we would create as safe a working environment as is practical. We’ll share an update when circumstances change.

For now, please stay in touch with your investment manager or other Rathbones contacts by phone or email. Post is still being opened at each of our offices and distributed within Rathbones. We encourage you to make any payments to us electronically and to contact us online or via phone where you have any concerns about the timely processing of your instructions or cheques.

How to get in touch with us during the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) crisis

During these exceptional times, we continue to focus our efforts on serving our clients and partners; however, the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) pandemic means that we have made some necessary changes to the way we operate.

Effective from 24 March 2020, and in support of UK Government guidelines on social distancing, we are working towards the controlled temporary closure of most of Rathbones’ offices and have asked employees to work remotely. Our Liverpool office will remain open to maintain critical operational functions.

The changes we have made will have no impact on our ability to manage client portfolios.

We would encourage you to maintain contact with your investment manager or other usual Rathbones contact via these alternative means as our switchboard is exceptionally busy at the moment:

  • Through a secure message via MyRathbones
  • Via email
  • Phoning directly where possible. All direct dial telephone numbers should be working as normal. As an alternative, we encourage you to use any mobile telephone numbers that you have for us. Your investment manager or usual Rathbones contact will be happy to provide you with their mobile number.

Note that calls using our office telephone numbers may take slightly longer to be answered as they are being diverted to mobiles or landlines. Please note that if you receive an engaged dial tone, you may need to try again as unfortunately it is currently not possible to automatically forward your call to another line.

We would also remind you to be especially aware of fraud during these unprecedented times. The City of London Police has issued an alert that fraudsters are exploiting the COVID-19 pandemic to facilitate fraud and cybercrime. They advise that you should not click on links or attachments in suspicious emails, and never respond to unsolicited messages and calls that ask for your personal or financial details.

We ask for your continued patience as we comply with government guidelines and protect the health and well-being of our employees, all the while maintaining the highest possible level of service to you.

COVID-19 (Coronavirus) – an update

As part of Rathbones’ ongoing actions to deal with the consequences of COVID-19 (Coronavirus) we have been exploring ways to ensure we preserve the health and well-being of our clients, professional business partners and staff, while maintaining services to clients without material disruption.

Effective this week we are phasing in “split-site working”, with teams of colleagues split between working remotely and being in the office at any given time. This may mean that your usual Rathbones contact will be working from a location outside the office.

The technology we use means that you can still make contact with usual phone numbers and email addresses. However, in line with the Government’s social distancing guidelines, we believe it is in everyone’s best interests to suspend face-to-face meetings for the time being.

Please take extra care with your financial transactions at this time, as periods of uncertainty often create opportunity for fraudsters. More information can be found here

We believe we are well-equipped to continue delivering the high levels of client service you would expect from Rathbones throughout the coming weeks. If you have any questions or concerns, please speak to your usual Rathbones contact.
