RESPONSIBLE INVESTMENT AT RATHBONES

Our responsible investment principles

We believe it is in the best interests of our clients that the companies we invest in adopt best practice in managing environmental, social and governance (ESG) risks. This provides each company with a framework for managing its operations in the long-term interests of its shareholders. We see it as our responsibility to be good, long-term stewards of our clients’ wealth, as outlined in our responsible investment policy.

We are guided by four responsible investment principles:

  • ESG integration: we will consider environmental, social and governance (ESG) factors in the evaluation of investments to help identify ESG opportunities and risks.

  • voting with purpose: we will actively vote across over 95% of the value of our holdings in line with our responsible investment commitments. This may involve voting against management to help drive positive change.

  • engagement with consequences: we will prioritise engagement where we can make a real difference in addressing the world’s systemic environmental and societal challenges. We are prepared to reduce our holdings in companies who continue to present an ESG risk over time

  • transparency: as a prominent participant in the financial markets, we are committed to being transparent about our approach to responsible investment. We will actively report on the progress of our RI activities to our clients, shareholders and other stakeholders.

AWARDS

The value of investments and the income from them may go down as well as up and you may not get back your original investment. Past performance should not be seen as an indication of future performance.

Our awards date back to 2002 across a range of funds. We are delighted to receive such acknowledgement from rating agencies and trade publications, as we continue to target consistently higher investment returns for our investors.

star_ig_gold_colour_2023_002_2.png

We are delighted to have been awarded for a second year a Gold rating from STAR (the best practice initiative of improving customer experience in transferring funds across platforms).

STAR is an organisation who work with platforms to try to make the transfer process quicker and less onerous for clients. It drives a vital piece of industry work that has defined and shaped a set of recognised industry-wide standards to promote good practice. An early signatory, Rathbone Funds has collaborated with STAR to:

  • Help them define good practice service level agreements for processes
  • Help them measure and shape performance against those service level agreements
  • Help define the terms by which MI will be shared between participants

We are delighted to announce that we won in the ‘Relationship Management’ category at the Citywire UK Wealth Service Awards 2022. The awards come from the results of a major annual Citywire survey of 300 top wealth managers and advisers and what they think of us in all aspects of service delivery in asset management.

We were shortlisted in three other categories as well:

  • Open Choice (essentially an overall quality of service, all elements)
  • Supplementary Services
  • Communications and Reporting

We’re particularly pleased to win this award as it signifies direct approval from intermediaries of the way in which we continue to build and foster intermediary relationships.

Rathbones win at the Celebration of Investment Awards 2021

In a new take on the Investors’ Chronicle Investment and Wealth Management Awards, the Celebration of Investment Awards 2021 recognises organisations that have made a positive contribution, whether that be strong performance, good ethical practice or excellent customer service.

Companies were nominated by readers and journalists from the Investors’ Chronicle and the Financial Times. An expert Investors’ Chronicle judging panel created shortlists for which we (Rathbones as a whole) were nominated in four categories: ESG Champion of the Year; ESG Champion – Governance; ESG Champion – Community and ESG Champion – Protecting the Planet.

At a ceremony 25 November 2021, we were delighted to win ESG Champion of the Year and ESG Champion – Governance; and runner-up (Highly Commended) in ESG Champion – Protecting the Planet. These awards are a major recognition of the immense hard work and progress we have made in this area.

Rathbones rated 5-Star in the Investments category at the Financial Adviser Service Awards 2021

The Financial Adviser Service Awards, now in their 31st year, rate providers from ‘One Star’ (poor service) to ‘Five Stars’ (excellent service). The categorisation is based on a poll of many thousands of advisers. Providers are rated on a number of areas including new business processing, personal contact, central processing, product support, flexibility of charging options and electronic business. Rathbones is included in a very select group of nine companies to have received 5 stars in the Investments category this year.

The awards continue to highlight the very best in service provision to advisers and their clients. They highlight what 'good' service looks like, especially in a Covid-19 world from firms that have gone the extra mile to demonstrate commitment to advisers and their clients. After making pandemic-induced changes in 2020, the top-rated firms are seen as having continued to refine their service offerings in 2021.

This success follows winning Best Sustainable and ESG Bond Fund at the Sustainable and ESG Investment awards 2020.

Best Investment Fund Provider by Investment Life & Pensions Moneyfacts awards

Congratulations all around we’ve won Best Investment Fund Provider by Investment Life & Pensions Moneyfacts awards! Beating off stiff competition from Vanguard Asset Management, and Premier Miton Investors.

Particularly important, because unlike many other awards, these awards are not panel assessed submissions, but instead voted by the adviser community.  In the same virtual ceremony which took place last week, we were awarded Commended Best Investment Service.  Whilst not quite a win, still an accomplishment in itself to be recognised.

Best Alpha Manager, Global Developed Equities

James Thomson, manager of the Rathbone Global Opportunities Fund, has picked up Best Alpha Manager, Global Developed Equities at FE fundinfo’s 2020 Alpha Manager Awards!
The Alpha Manager Rating is a quantitative rating that distinguishes the top UK fund managers based on alpha generation and outperformance across their career history, allowing investors to instantly identify those managers who have consistently outperformed their peer group over time. It recognises how the most successful managers consistently add value for investors over the course of their careers, removing the nuances of short-term market movements other cyclical factors.
Only the top 10% of UK managers receive an Alpha Rating, representing those managers who are the very best of the best in the industry. James has been an Alpha Manager for the last 10 years.
This year’s award confirms James as the very best of that 10% of his category and it came from a very distinguished shortlist including managers from McInroy & Wood Portfolios; Linsell Train; Stewart Investors and Columbia Threadneedle Investments.

Eurosif Transparency accolade for the Rathbone Global Sustainability Fund

Excellent news, we have been authorised to use the Eurosif Transparency accolade for the Rathbone Global Sustainability Fund. A rare award, to go with the same we have had for the Rathbone Ethical Bund for over five years – a ‘grown-up’ recognition of the screening processes behind the fund and helpful to us as regulations and clear communication around this topic of Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) become ever more important.
The European SRI Transparency logo signifies that Rathbone Unit Trust Management Limited commits to provide accurate, adequate and timely information to enable stakeholders, in particular consumers, to understand the Socially Responsible Investment (SRI) policies and practices relating to the fund.
